THE MIDDLE MUDDLE

Fifty matches over five weeks, the nonstop cricketing extravaganza has been characterized by thrills, spills & some dance skills. Hatricks, super overs, mighty sixes, changing captains, spectacular catches, easy misses, poor umpiring decisions, well the IPL 6 has seen it all.

Chennai, despite posting the lowest total of this IPL are sitting pretty as table toppers with 18 points (9 wins in 12 games). Bangalore, Mumbai, Rajasthan & Hyderabad are all in the middle muddle with 14 points, having won 7 of the 11 games. Only the critical net run rate separates them from each other. The big coincidence is that all of these four teams have an unbeaten record at home while they have been poor travellers.

In the lower table, time is running out fast for Punjab & Kolkata , both of whom are already living on the edge with almost every game coming up as a must win situation. The talented under achievers, Delhi and Pune have been knocked out, but with the match winners in their side, they could be spoiling the party for some of the other teams.

With just about three vacant spots for the playoffs, the last two weeks of league stage are interestingly poised as there is very little difference between 2nd spot and the 5th spot on the points table.
