They are still relatively new in
the IPL. They have had a torrid time at the IPL so far. They would be looking
to change their fortunes this IPL. They surely do have the resources which
could lead them to the title and could be a force to reckon if they gather some
momentum.
The Local talent – Well placed with
lot of options
The instrumental, reborn Yuvraj
Singh will be welcomed back. His presence is sure to win hearts and bring a new
dimension to their game. B Kumar, A Dinda, R Uthappa, Rahul Sharma, A Nayar, M
Pandey, P Rasool & T Suman are reasonably good resources at their disposal. Overall
they have reasonable blend of youngsters covering most bases.
The Overseas Talent – Reasonably
well loaded
They have great T20 allrounders
like A Mathews and M Samuels, both of whom are key members of their national
sides. S Smith, M Marsh & Lukewright are great bench strength. They also
have in form M Clarke and the destructive finisher R Taylor in their ranks. W
Parnell & young K Richardson gives them the pace in the bowling department. The addition
of the mystery spinner A Mendis would be welcomed.
Injury Concerns & The Srilankan Impact – M Clarke has been ruled out of IPL, which is a big blow as he was
expected to the lead the side as well. Mendis & Mathews will be missed in
Chennai, but they have a lot of allrounders in their reserves.
Likely XI – 1) T Suman, 2) M Pandey/A
Nayar, 3) R Uthappa, 4) Y Singh 5) R
Taylor, 6) M Samuels , 7) A Mathews, 8) B Kumar, 9) R Sharma/P Rasool, 10) A Dinda, 11) A Mendis
Looks like a good balanced side, this
