IPL 6 SPECIAL – 20 FOR THIS T20 - PART 2

The months of April & May used to be called the summer months in India. Well not anymore, now they are called “The IPL Season”. Every IPL we see the accomplished players entertaining us and also some new emerging talents who make it big. It would be easy to make a list of the well established players, but here is a list of 20 men who could be the talk of the town after IPL 6.

Part 2 covers Batsmen & Bowlers

Watch Out For Them:

11) Unmukt Chand (Batsmen, Delhi Daredevils, Age – 20, India)

Batting – Avg 22 @ S/R 121

The U-19 world cup winning captain was drafted in to the Delhi team a couple of seasons back when he failed to impress. Although IPL has not witnessed much of him, he proved that he has all the class and temperament to become a world class player. The innings he played against Australia on the big day in the U-19 World Cup final can be rated as one of the best under pressure. One can surely expect him to play a more central role in the DD team this time around. An impactful performance here can also earn him the big ticket to the Indian colours. Could we relive the Virat Kohli story all over again?!

12) Mandeep Singh (Batsmen, Kings XI Punjab, Age – 21, India)

Batting – Avg 27 @ S/R 123

He was one of the stars of 2009 U-19 tour to Australia. He earned the post of vice captaincy at U-19 World Cup in 2010. In the last edition of IPL, he showed glimpses of class at the top most level. Young, energetic & aspiring, he will be looking to better his performances this IPL for the Kings.

13) Chris Lynn (Batsmen, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Age – 22, Australia)

Batting – Avg 27 @ S/R 139

He is an exciting batting prospect who won the “Emerging Player of the Tournament” at the Big Bash League 2012-13. He played a significant role in the success of Brisbane Heat. He is very elegant and a clean striker of the cricket ball. In the last IPL, he got very few chances to prove himself for the Deccan Charges (which is now SH). If drafted into the line up, he could be the “X factor” and could change fortunes for the Risers.

14) Luke Pomersbach (Batsmen, Kings XI Punjab, Age – 28, Australia)

Batting – Avg 27 @ S/R 134

He is a powerful and a well built top order batsman. He was a part of Kings XI in the inaugural edition of IPL where he created an impact with his lusty hitting abilities. His short career till date has been sparked by controversy due to his drinking habits. Well, a good performance this season at the Big Bash League has made way for his comeback for the Kings. Could he be the Chris Gayle for the Kings?!

15) Tirumalasetti Suman (Batsmen, Pune Warriors , Age – 29, India)

Batting – Avg 23 @ S/R 123

He is an aggressive opening batsman who was a part of the winning Deccan Chargers camp. He played a few cameos in that season at the top of the order. Also, he was wisely utilized as a tidy part time off spinner. In the last IPL, he was a part of the star studded Mumbai Indians line up where he barely got an opportunity. If the Warriors give him a run into the playing XI, he would be anxious to create an impact and relive some of his glimpses of glory.

16) Samuel Badree (Leg Spinner, Rajasthan Royals, Age – 32, West Indies)

Bowling – Avg 17 @ E/R 4.8

His career did not take off like he would have hoped for. He made his first class debut more than a decade ago and couldn’t cement his place then. However, in the recent years he has fought his way back. Canny bowling variations & an extraordinary economy rate in this format have earned him an IPL contract. Could he the dark horse for the Royals?!

17) Sachin Senanayake (Off Spinner, Kolkata Knight Riders, Age – 28, Srilanka)

Bowling – Avg 15 @ E/R 6.0

He has a tremendous first class average and an excellent economy rate. He made his debut at a later stage for Srilanka, attributing to the fact that they had Muralidharan and a lot of other back up spinners. Last edition, eyebrows were raised over Sunil Narine’s aggressive bids by KKR. But his consistency played an important role in their success. This time round they bid equally aggressive for Senanayake. Can he be the new mystery weapon for the Knight Riders?!

18) Kane Richardson (Fast Bowler, Pune Warriors, Age – 22, Australia)

Bowling – Avg 23 @ E/R 7.6

He is a very young and promising kid on the block. He hasn’t had too many opportunities in the international arena. Will his non-exposure be his strength (as the world hasn’t seen much of him) or will his lack of experience prove costly. The Warriors surely see potential in him as they were bidding aggressively for him. It will be interesting to see how and when the Warriors unleash him.

19) Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Fast Bowler, Pune Warriors, Age – 23, India)

Bowling - Avg 31 @ E/R 7.1

Young and aspiring B Kumar has had a great start to his international career. He has represented India in all three formats of the game and has done reasonably well. This IPL should be a test of his consistency against the best. Can he spearhead the Warriors attack & help reverse their fortunes this season?!

20) Sandeep Sharma (Fast Bowler, Kings XI Punjab, Age – 19, India)

Bowling - Avg 20 @ E/R 6.5

He was first recognized being an integral part of U-19 WC Indian Team. A line and length bowler having the capability of swinging the ball both ways makes him an important wicket taking bowler. Will he be able to transform his performance to the next level is a big challenge for the youngster. Given the guidance and backing, he could be an integral part of Kings XI pace attack.

P.S. – Part 1 covers Allrounders & Wicket Keepers
