IPL 6 SPECIAL – 20 FOR THIS T20 - PART 1

The months of April & May used to be called the summer months in India. Well not anymore, now they are called “The IPL Season”. Every IPL we see the accomplished players entertaining us and also some new emerging talents who make it big. It would be easy to make a list of the well established players, but here is a list of 20 men who could be the talk of the town after IPL 6.

Part 1 covers All Rounders & Wicket Keepers

Watch Out For Them:

1) Glenn Maxwell (Allrounder, Mumbai Indians, Age – 24, Australia)

Batting – Avg 22 @ S/R 145 & Bowling – Avg 30 @ E/R 7.1

He made his name when he slammed a fifty in just 19 balls, being the fastest in the Australian domestic circuit. His powerful striking abilities make him a threat in all formats of the game. Also a handy off-spinner and an athletic fieldsman make him the ideal T20 player of this generation. With eyebrows being raised on his big signing amount, he surely would like to hit back with strong performances. Could he be the "X factor" for the Mumbai Indians!?

2) Thisara Perera (Allrounder, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Age – 23, Srilanka)

Batting – Avg 16 @ S/R 141 & Bowling – Avg 24 @ E/R 7.7

He has been a part of 3 IPL teams, Chennai, Kochi & Mumbai. On each of those occasions got very few chances to prove his worth. With some match winning performances both, with the bat and the ball, he has now established himself as an impact player for his country. He is capable of clearing the rope at ease and breaking partnerships with his nippy seam bowling. An attacking all rounder by nature makes him ideal for this format. Lack of an all rounder for SH, means that Perera could get his chances this time around to prove his worth.

3) Chris Morris (Allrounder, Chennai Super Kings, Age – 25, South Africa)

Batting – Avg 17 @ S/R 152 & Bowling – Avg 18 @ E/R 7.1

He is an exciting prospect who has genuine pace and has big hitting abilities. He showed the world that he could create an impact at the CLT20. On his day, he could change the course of the game with either the bat or the ball. He sure would itch to get an opportunity at the big stage.

4) Moises Henriques (Allrounder, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Age – 26, Australia)

Batting – Avg 20 @ S/R 122 & Bowling – Avg 30 @ E/R 8.5)

He started his cricket at a very young age. At 16, he was a part of U-19 Aussie team. He has delivered with match winnings performances in crunch situations for his domestic side. He had a good outing at the CLT20. A military medium pace bowler with lot of variations adds to his batting ability which makes him a very useful contender in this format.

5) James Faulkner (Allrounder, Rajasthan Royals, Age – 22, Australia)

Batting – Avg 16 @ S/R 113 & Bowling – Avg 23 @ E/R 7.5

In the last IPL, he played few games for Kings XI but nobody noticed him. It was in the Big Bash League 2012-13 he got attention with his all round performances for the Melbourne Stars. As a result, he saw himself being selected for the national team. If Watson is to play as a batsman in IPL, and then Faulkner can get regular chances to prove his worth for the Royals.

6) Stuart Binny (Allrounder, Rajasthan Royals, Age – 28, India)

Batting – Avg 20 @ S/R 121 & Bowling – Avg 22 @ E/R 7.4

The son of former Indian all rounder Roger Binny, he has established himself as a very useful cricketer in the same discipline. He considers himself as a limited over specialist. His useful all round skills could prove resourceful to the Royals.

7) Parveez Rasool (Allrounder, Pune Warriors, Age – 24, India)

Batting – Avg 19 @ S/R 85 & Bowling – Avg 38 @ E/R 5.9

He is an orthodox off spinner having useful bowling variations. He came into the spotlight in the warm up game against Australia, where he bagged seven wickets. He could be utilized wisely by the Warriors for his all round abilities.

8) Jeevan Mendis (Allrounder, Delhi Daredevils, Age – 30, Srilanka)

Batting – Avg 25 @ S/R 116 & Bowling – Avg 27 @ E/R 7.1

He comes from a cricketing family and started playing from a very early age. He has represented Srilanka at U-19 WC. He may not be among the greatest cricketing talents, but he delivers by being among the biggest tries. Being a leg spinner and a handy middle order batsman, he could be a useful contender considering the minimal spin options available to the Daredevils.

9) Quinton de Kock (Wicket Keeper, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Age– 20, South Africa)

Batting – Avg 38 @ S/R 141

He is a very exciting young prospect for the Proteas. He got the attention of the national selectors for his scintillating performances in the domestic arena. He backed that with glimpses of brilliance at the CLT20. Could he create an impact and reverse fortunes for the Risers!?

10) KJ Perera (Wicket Keeper, Rajasthan Royals, Age – 22, Srilanka)

Batting – Avg 14 @ S/R 105

Possessed of a short back lift, powerful forearms and relentless bloody-mindedness, left-handed batsman KJ Perera’s batting is not just inspired by his hero Sanath Jayasuriya's technique, at times, it seems an exact duplicate. He is the first Srilankan to score a triple hundred in the domestic circuit. Could he be a pocket size dynamite for the Royals!?

P.S. – Part 2 covers Batsmen & Bowlers

  1. Hi.

Great stuff till now. Waiting for the other details.
    I know I digress but ....
How will the ban on Sri Lanka players in Tamil Nadu effect the IPL? Which side will hurt the most and which will benefit?

  2. With the ban on Srilankan Players in Chennai, It will clearly benefit CSK the most, cause each team coming for their away game in Chennai cannot field SL players. Chennai dont have any first choice SL players, so its clearly Advantage Chennai

    Biggest Impact on-
    SH (without K Sangakarra & T Perera)
    MI (without Malinga)
    RCB (without Dilshan & Murli)
    DD (without M Jayawardene)

The sad part is that even 2 of the playoff games are scheduled. So effectively franchises cannot have the best XI they want to field.
