IPL Team Preview 6) Kings XI Punjab

They looked a very promising side in the first edition of IPL, where they made the Semifinals, which was their best performance in IPL. They haven’t ever been on a roll or anything since, but have had glimpses of brilliance. They don’t have any big names, but have enough talent to upset the lavish spending franchises.

The Local Talent –Fair bowling options & few upcoming batsmen.
They have reasonable resources in the bowling department with P Kumar, P Chawla & P Awana. They have the upcoming young Mandeep Singh (2012 IPL hero) and P Valthaty (2011 IPL hero). Their captain, A Gilchrist has the eye of a hawk, and he could instrumental in finding new talents and utilizing them to the best of their ability.

The Overseas Talent – Reasonably Well Loaded
Adam Gilchrist is one of the most destructive batsmen the game has ever seen. If  he is on song, he could be a deciding factor on the fate of KXIP in IPL. They have the T20 specialist allrounder A Mahmood, who is very well established in this format across different T20 leagues across the globe. S Marsh, D Hussey, L Pomersbach & D Miller provide powerhouse batting options. R Harris could spearhead the attack depending on their team balance.

Injury Concerns & The Srilankan Impact – No problems what so ever on the injury as well as Srilankan player front

Likely XI – 1) A Gilchrist, 2) M Singh, 3) S Marsh, 4) D Hussey, 5) A Mahmood, 6) G Singh, 7) R Sathish / S Chitnis, 8) P Chawla, 9) P Kumar, 10) P Awana, 11) M Gony / B Bhatt / B Sharma
